Abstract:   (253 Views)
Corrosion behavior of submerged arc welded joint of ASTM A131/A and A131/AH32 steels in simulated seawater were investigated via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and Potentiodynamic polarization tests as well as microscopic studies. Results showed that difference in composition, especially carbon content, and microstructure has an effective role on the corrosion behavior of different welding zones. Steel grade A131/A and its heat-affected zone demonstrated the highest corrosion rate while the fusion zone showed the lowest corrosion rate. Potential differences of about 35 mV were observed between the heat-affected zone of steel grade A131/A and fusion zone that makes the weld susceptible to galvanic corrosion.
