Corrosion resistance of galvanized steel increased by optimizing operating conditions (pH, temperature and immersion time) of vanadium conversion coating. In order to evaluate the corrosion behavior of vanadium conversion coating, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization were used in 3.5%wt sodium chloride solution. The results showed the best performance of corrosion resistance at pH=1.5, temperature of 45°C with 15 minutes immersion time. The Polarization resistance increased from 1075(Ω.cm2) for uncoated galvanized steel to 54277 Ω.cm2 in the presence of vanadium conversion coating As well as the corrosion current density decreased from 6.36×10-6 A/cm2 to 0.6182×10-6 A/cm2.
