In the present study, the corrosion inhibition performance of Zataria multiflora essential oil as a green inhibitor for steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid solution was evaluated. Weight loss measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), polarization, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses were employed. The weight loss results demonstrated a significant reduction in corrosion rate with increasing inhibitor concentration, achieving maximum inhibition efficiency at 400 mg/L. EIS analysis revealed a substantial increase in polarization resistance from 160 to 1782 Ω.cm² in the presence of the inhibitor, indicating the formation of a stable and protective adsorbed film on the steel surface. Potentiodynamic polarization results showed that the corrosion current density decreased markedly from 95.4 to 9.7 µA/cm². Furtheremore, thermodynamic studies shows that adsorption process followed the Langmuir isotherm. SEM observations further supported the electrochemical results by revealing a smoother and less damaged surface in the presence of the inhibitor.
